Tuesday's Assignment

Now that you've been in the Toronto area for a while, are you pretty familiar with the public transport system?

So, have a look at the map and find the nearest station from here:

Here are your tasks:

1. Vocabulary: Getting Around without a Car
      1. Learn the meaning and pronunciation of the words in bold.
got it covered - the situation was under control

Segway - a two-wheeled motorized personal vehicle 

in the meantime - until something else happens

Worst case scenario - the worst situation was happened

commute - to change to a less severe one

fess up - own up; make a confession

well- being - a good or satisfactory condition of existence; a state characterized by health, happiness, and prosperity; welfare:

ulterior - existing beyond what is obvious or admitted; intentionally hidden.

motive - a reason for doing something, especially one that is hidden or not obvious.

scooter - motorcycle

next to nothing - almost nothing; a very little bit 

pawn off - an object left as security for money lent

con artists - a person who cheats or tricks others by persuading them to believe something that is not true.

      2. Read them to a partner who speaks a different L1 than yours.

2. Role play: Reading a Bus Schedule

3. Find two field trip venues for the summer using Google Maps.
      1. For one trip, find out how much and how long it takes to get there and back on the TTC.
      2. For the other trip, do the same thing, but include a GO train journey.
      3. Give reasons for each of your choices.
