If the first thing that you think of when it comes to Canadian celebrations is John Graves Simcoe, you can jump up and shout Woohoo!

You may already know of Lake Simcoe and Simcoe Street downtown. Well, how about a Simcoe Day, and who really was Simcoe?

What Canadian celebrations are represented above?

Here are your tasks:
1. Look for at least 5 new words about Governor Simcoe here.

3. Find the meaning of those words.
lieutenant, "an assistant with power to act when his superior is absent".
If he can't attend, he will send his lieutenant.

initiate, "bring into being".
He initiated a new program.

coincidence, "a striking occurrence of two or more events at one time apparently by mere chance".
Is this coincidence? yes, It's an amazing coincidence.

resonate, "to produce a positive feeling, emotional response, or opinion"
The students resonate with the lecturer.

abolition, "the legal prohibition and ending of slavery".
The studnts are talking about the abolition of slavery.
impetus, "a force that moves something along".
Children need an impetus to study.

abolish, "to do away with; put an end to; annul; make void".
Was slavery abolished in the 19th?

compromise, "an accommodation in which both sides make concessions".
I can not compromise on this opinion.
4. Read the sentences containing those words to a partner to check for pronunciation.
5. Wait for class take up.
6. Write a dialogue using those words.
7. Read your classmates’ stories and identify their words from Simcoe’s story under Comments.
